Little Man sees things no child should see, but also things that make him want to stretch and lean into his future. He lives with his wife near the Great Smoky Mountains in East Tennessee on a small farm. Wow!

Amanda Beresford is a single mother with a young son, Freddie. Delivering the papers was easy for a star baseball pitcher, but having to talk to the people to collect for the papers was traumatic.
In a shocking scene, Ara T, the dangerous, disturbing junk man tries to take something precious from the boy.
The story takes place during our childhood, which was in the segregated South.
The book describes the everyday routine of a young man and his dog as they ride around town delivering news papers to the subscribers.

Little Man sees things no child should see, but also things that make him want to stretch and lean into his future. He lives with his wife near the Great Smoky Mountains in East Tennessee on a small farm. Wow!

Paperboy, is a combination of the story of Vince Vawter, the author, and the fictitious story of Little Man, an eleven year old boy from Memphis Tennessee in 1959, who stutters. All of this is in there, but it's more than a metaphor and more than an archetype. I guessed early on that it's based on the author's own childhood. So I finish the novel with these three characters in my head. His stuttering problem was so severe that he chose not to talk, rather than deal with the hardships of stuttering. Amanda Beresford is a single mother with a young son, Freddie. Delivering the papers was easy for a star baseball pitcher, but having to talk to the people to collect for the papers was traumatic.
