As a VR early adopter, my expectations may be set too low, but either way, the campaign that Digital Lode put together is impressive if we’re measuring it in terms of content. The lady who logs me in at the beginning never asks me if she thinks I could find love on the battlefield, but she could have, and now she’ll never know. Some Move awkwardness aside, it felt like the game I’d played the majority of on Oculus Quest. In fact, across an hour of playing with the game, I didn’t encounter any massive bugs (or at least ones that would be unique to the PSVR version). Espire 1 is an original IP created through a shared love of stealth games like Metal Gear Solid and Splinter Cell. Not a way to build immersion. Espire 1: VR Operative is unquestionably the best expression of the stealth action genre we’ve seen in VR yet. You can pitch the game as 4-6 hours. The dialogue is full of stealth game tropes in terms of both content and delivery. Digital Lode says the Assimilation Update should also improve the AI. One piece of really cool polish I want to mention is that when you aren’t using the crouch button feature, and you are physically crouching, the run button doesn’t work.
